Turbine Fuel by John Beran There is a lot of discussion about the kerosene we buy and use here in the Austin area. I too wanted to get some other inputs from turbine folks in and around the area so I wrote to the President of the JPO and expressed MY concerns about the kerosene we buy/use here in Austin. His input was "in general I try to find the lowest cost fuel and filter it well. So far I have not had any fuel problems". I (John Beran) buy my kerosene in bulk from: Sun Coast Resources, 2915 Cesar Chavez, Ph: 385-0935. You do have to bring your own containers. I bring 5 gal jugs, put the oil in first, add some kerosene, shake the container and continue filling. It is easy and cost effective. Yes, it has red dye in it but no one I know of has had a problem with the red dye. I called Jet Cat and asked them too and there response was "no problem". I understand from Jack Scheider that Sun Coast also has clear kerosene if you prefer. Sun Coast states their kerosene is K-1. Of course Home Depot has kerosene and so do some hardware stores but the cost is twice that of Sun Coast. |
